There isn't a day when I don't experience some permanent and disgusting damage to my jeans, top or boots - or end up bathed in a coat of ichor.

Some days are worse than others.

Yes!  Right. Sometimes people make mistakes. We're only human. Or most of us. As long as someone is trying her very best, she deserves a break.

I've done some things I regret (going into the greenhouse after hours, tossing things from the tools draw to Owen, O-  never mind) and I think I've been forgiven.
